In November 2009 the United Nations General Assembly declared 18 July of every year as Nelson Mandela day. In recognition of the former South African President’s contribution to this country’s fight for freedom. On this day every year citizens are encouraged to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate and living in poverty. With this being said citizens over the years have spent their 67 minutes offering their time and services at orphanages, old age homes and schools across the country just to mention a few.

The SA Army Support Formation celebrated Mandela Day by heading to the instruction of the Chief SA National Defence Force to celebrate Mandela Day inline with his theme of “charity begins at home”, A command was given that all military personnel in the Tshwane region are to give their time and manpower to conduct maintenance within the military area called Thaba Tshwane situated on the west of Pretoria, this land is used to provide offices as wells as shelter to the families and patriots of this country that serve with pride and honour.

Members of the SA Army Support Formation were geared and eager to make a difference in their own for their own as they tackled the area of responsibility at the old SAMI/SAFI working through as team. It was truly a remarkable sight to witness such a display of discipline, as it being a fundamental part of soldiering globally.  “On behalf of the General Officer Commanding SA Army Support Formation, I express great gratitude for your co-operation and making this task a success, each and every one of you have displayed true discipline  as soldiers in the South African National Defence Force” beamed the Acting Staff Officer 2 Corporate Communication, Major V.N. Pamla.
