Painting, raking and washing by colonels, captains, corporals and even civilians were some of the unexpected tasks done by members of the SA Army Headquarters Corporate Services in aid for Mandela Day on 18 July 2012.

These tasks were done at the Dominican School for the Deaf in Hammanskraal near Pretoria. This school has over 400 children who make use of the hostel facilities.

The members collected funds which were used to buy some sweet packets for the children and some clothes were donated for those in need.

The day started with scripture reading and prayer and singing happy birthday to the former president Mandela. Here the children taught the hardened soldiers to sing the song in sign language and interesting the soldiers who can normally drill with ease struggle to move their hands with the right signs, but all had great fun.

This was also a day a great team building as the corporate service chief directorate consist of all the odd sections, such as communication, military security, HR, ceremonial etc, sections who normally does not work together and we saw troops washing side by side with Lieutenant Colonels.
