On Friday the 13 January 2012, normally a day viewed with superstition, a group of members dressed in tackies, gumboots, wide rimmed hats, armed with brooms, rakes, forks, saws and edge cutters ready to tackle Dequar Road.

At 08:00 this group was addressed by Major General Les Rudman, Deputy Chief of the SA Army who thanked the members for their positive approach to this working day, and work they did. Scrubs were pruned, grass cut, papers picked up and the area bordering the houses in Second Street were cleaned as some criminals had previously hid in the bushes. At some stage Major General Rudman passed a group of ladies trying to get a weed out of the tar road, and gentlemen that he is, he bent down to pull it out.

Some members worked, some supervised and some looked pretty, but all in all the area was cleanup and over a hundred black bags filled with rubbish. When Chief of the SA Army, Lieutenant General V.R. Masondo returned from leave on 16 January 2012 he received a wonderful surprise.

Major General Rudman encouraged all the members to continue to clean the areas where they work including their offices and we hope that the owner of the homes in the Defence Terrain keep the area clean.
