History was made once again when the South African Army School of Artillery hosted the first "Operation Firepower" on 28 August 2009. "Operation Firepower" was a corporate event where stakeholders and friends of the School of Artillery were treated to an evening of socialising in true military fashion.

"Operation Firepower" was a standard setting event from the word go. The invitations for the event were sent out as an "operational order" where the guests were tasked as members of an elite infiltration team to infiltrate a pre-determined deployment area and execute deliberate, planned and sustained socialising actions in order to strengthen the corporate relations between them and the South African Army School of Artillery.

"Operation Firepower" was presented the evening prior to the annual South African Army Artillery Open Day and the members had to sleep over at a field base that was erected in the military training area. The following day the group attended the South African Army Artillery Open Day as VIP guests.

The evening was a huge success and it truly displayed the benchmark standard of military excellence and commitment. The field base was divided into two main areas. There was a lapa area where all the activities took place and then there was the accommodation area where the members could sleep, although some chose to sleep around the fire.

A total of around hundred and forty stakeholders and friends attended the event. The stakeholders represented members from various different categories including the Defence Industries, South African Army School of Artillery Suppliers and Contractors, various sponsors and business partners and the local media agency. Many retired gunners also attended the event.

Members enjoyed the hospitality of the South African Army School of Artillery and all received a supper "braai" pack and a muffin breakfast the following morning. The excitement and vibe amongst the members highlighted the need there is for such events where friends can come together and just enjoy each other's company.

The organisers received various compliments and indicated that we should definitely present "Operation Firepower" again in the future.
