On Friday, 16 November 2007 the blue skies of
Bloemfontein was trembled with roars of the
flights of the Cheetah Strike Air Craft, Rooivalk Attack Helicopters and other type
aircraft. These aircraft participated in the
annual South African Army Exercise Young Eagle
Open Day at De Brug Training area in Bloemfontein.
The aim of the exercise was to train and
exercise the SA Army's Airborne and Air Assault
forces to enhance its airborne capability and
combat readiness. The troops that participated
were the members of the January 2007 Military
Skills Development System intake.
Among others, the programme included a static
display, Special Forces infiltration, attack by
the Cheetah Strike Air Craft, Rooivalk Attack
Helicopter Integrated Strike, paratroops
parachuting into the drop and free fall demonstrations.
The Open Day consists of briefings, static
displays/exhibitions, Airborne and Air Assault
demonstration and be concluded by a media
conference hosted by the Chief of the SA Army,
Lieutenant General Solly Shoke.
