Programmes and Achievements
Programme 2:
Landward Defence with the purpose
of providing, preparation and support
landward defence capabilities for the
defence and protection of South Africa.
Measurable Objectives
Defend and protect South Africa and
its territory by:
►providing three infantry battalions a
year for external deployment, three
companies for internal deployment, one
air landed battalion, two multi-role
battalions in reserve, and four
battalions involved in exercises;
►exercising one tank regiment and one
armoured car regiment a year;
► preparing one composite artillery
regiment and one light artillery
battery, and having one light artillery
battery in reserve a year.
► exercising one air defence artillery
regiment and one light air
defence artillery battery in reserve a
year; and
► providing three engineer squadrons for
external deployment, one
composite engineer squadron for internal
deployment, and
exercising one light (parachute)
engineer squadron a year.

wearing of a simple emblem, a red poppy,
we salute the memory of those who
sacrificed their health, their strength,
even their lives, that we might live in
a free country.

Another Child from the
Reach For A Dream Foundation has
witnessed his lifetime dream. Reach For
A Dream Foundation is an organisation
that deals with children with life
threatening illnesses and Aidan Loubser
is one of them. He suffers from
Langerhan’s-Cell Histiocytosis, and was
given more than he wished for at the
event that took place at Denel Land
System in Centurion on Monday 21
September 2009.

Hand-to-hand combat |
The Chief of the South
African Army has created a climate for
social and physical interaction between
the Defence Act Personnel (DAP) and the
Public Service Act Personnel (PSAP) from
the South African Army Headquarters as
well as the formation and brigade
headquarters. The emphasis was placed on
maximum participation and enjoyment,
which contributed towards morale and
esprit de corps of South African Army
members.

International Show presented the 70th
show with the theme "Unwrap a Smile"
from 28 August to 6 September 2009 at
the Tshwane Events Centre this year.

On 4 September 2009,
Casual Day, the South African Army
Signal Formation had the opportunity
again to bring hope to the new Hope
School, Menlyn. The school is for
disabled children, aged three years
upwards and has been adopted by the
South African Army School of Signals.
This social responsibility initiative
has been managed and executed by the
South African School of Signals for the
past three years. "South African Army
School of Signals got the mandate to run
the event because of the manpower
available", said Colonel H.E. Gunter,
Officer Commanding South African Army
School of Signals.
